What is a vampire paddle?

But vampire paddles are in a class of their own.

Differences between classic BDSM paddles and vampire paddles

When using vampire paddles for scratching, you should avoid the most fragile areas (in red), as well as the head, and modulate the intensity of the pressure exerted to scratch when the areas are thinner or more sensitive (in orange).

How to choose a good vampire paddle?

An effective vampire paddle should have very sharp spikes, which will make practice easier and not require excessive force to use.

Vampire paddles should be made of stainless steel, as regular contact with fluids and disinfectants will quickly rust poor-quality metals and compromise the hygiene required for blood play.

Vampire paddles with a base made of hard materials such as metal or wood (provided it’s treated with the right varnish for the job) will provide well-distributed pressure, and effectively direct the area of impact.

Health & Safety

Before :

• It’s essential to disinfect vampire paddles before each session, to remove any contaminants that may have settled on the surface.
  To do this, you can use a medical surface disinfectant, or an uncolored disinfectant claiming to be virucidal, bactericidal and fungicidal.
  Leave to act for the time indicated, then wipe or wipe with a damp cloth, following the disinfectant’s instructions.
• It’s a good idea to protect the area in which you’re going to practice, with a plastic sheet for example.
• Getting tested for HIV, HBV and HCV is always a plus. You can also get vaccinated for HBV.

During :

• Make sure your practice area is large enough so as not to hurt other people approaching you, especially in the evening.
• Make sure you wear stain-resistant clothing.
• It is preferable for the person receiving the impact to shower shortly before the session, or even 1 to 2 hours before, in order to eliminate most of the infectious agents.
• Just before the impact, disinfect the area of the body on which you will be practicing.
• Start gently and make sure you don’t touch any areas with excessively thin skin.
• Pay close attention to your partner’s reactions, especially if he or she is particularly impressed by blood or has not yet tried this type of practice. It’s best to define a safeword in advance, bearing in mind that the safeword itself may not be enough.

After :

• Disinfect the impacted area, and provide a clean towel or sterile field so that your partner doesn’t get blood everywhere while the wounds coagulate.
• Disinfect the equipment briefly, to remove excess blood and prevent the growth of bacteria.
• Proceed with the after-care.
• The recipient should bring stain-resistant, dark clothing for dressing after the session, in case there are traces of blood from the fabric rubbing against the wounds.
• Check the evolution of the wounds if there is any reaction: persistent redness or pain (more than 48 hours), heat in the lesions, swelling, fever.
