What are BDSM canes?

Canes, also commonly known as Sticks, are more or less flexible rods used in BDSM. They are known as instruments of punishment or sadomasochistic pleasure.
Badines can be used for very scathing impact play, and leave pretty marks.

Where does the cane come from?

As far back as ancient Rome, sticks were used to inflict punishment. Called verges, they were generally made up of several very flexible rods.
The rattan cane was once used for corporal punishment, and is particularly well known in English education, associated with the other harsh punishments of 19th-century English schools.
The hazel cane, on the other hand, is more often used in France, where this wood is abundant. Used in pastures and for corporal punishment.

What role fulfill the cane in BDSM?

Cane is a classic BDSM accessory. Sought-after as much as feared, it’s a favorite accessory for punishment and impact play.

  • In Sadomasochism: It’s the instrument of choice in a panoply, the pain provoked is quite sharp, the cane deliciously pinches the skin and leaves beautiful red streaks on the buttocks.
  • In Discipline and Domination/Submission: A traditional object of discipline, it enables the Dominant to call the submissive to order if he or she is not satisfied with his or her behavior.
To emphasize discipline during punishment, it’s a good idea to have the strokes counted out loud.

What’s the difference between a riding crop and a BDSM cane?

The main part of the riding crop is the tap at the end.
Whereas for the badine, it’s mainly the body, over a good part of its length, that’s used.

What are the other names for the BDSM cane?

The cane is also called an “English cane” in memory of its well-known use in English schools.
It can also be called “rattan” or “rattan cane“, due to its very common composition in this material.
The term “verge” is older, and can refer to a single cane, or to several flexible rods tied together.
In France, the cane is most often called a “badine“.

How to choose a BDSM cane?

-Choosing the intensity level of the cane

Together with your partner, you’ll need to determine the desired pain level for your badine. This level can vary greatly depending on its use and material.

-Choosing the cane’s material

Classic canes are made of wood, while the more painful “evil sticks” are made of extremely flexible carbon fiber.

If you choose a classiccane, should you opt for rattan or hazelwood?

Rattan has the advantage of being very flexible, but the disadvantage of being produced only in South-East Asia, so it has to make a long journey, with no guarantee of chemical treatment received or not.
Hazelnut is more rigid, and is hand-harvested in the wild during forest-preserving walks, dried in our workshop and entirely handcrafted.

-Choosing the rod shape

Canes are mostly round or flat.
Round canes are the most classic, corresponding to the natural shape of the wood stems used.
Flat canes produce a slightly louder sound on impact and less painful blows, as the surface in contact with the skin is larger.

-Choosing the length of the cane

The shorter the cane, the easier it will be to control, and the less painful it will be compared with a cane of the same type. With a short cane, you’ll be able to deliver precise strokes and be physically close to your partner.
The longer the stick, the more painful it will be and the more training you’ll need.

Why choose a handmade cane?

Choosing a handcrafted cane is a guarantee of unique craftsmanship, and special attention to the creation of your cane. The choice of materials is made with care, particularly for the hazelnut cane, whose wood is harvested by hand, then debarked and sanded.

How to use a BDSM cane ?

Held firmly by the handle, you can start by making light, gentle strokes with your wrist, increasing the intensity as you go along.
Wooden canes are best used on fleshy areas such as the buttocks and thighs. Carbon or “evil stick” canes are more superficial in their impact, so can be used on a wider variety of areas of the body.
